Understanding the Process

As part of the school’s intent to make the children understand the processes of producing various food items which they would normally see only on supermarket aisles, my son’s school had arranged for a field trip to various food manufacturing companies. I volunteered during this occasion since I also would want to be exposed and learn know more about how these things are prepared.

It was interesting to see how various raw products are transformed into the things which we use in our kitchen. Piles of grains would be passing through wedge wire to make sure the impurities are to be separated from the food items themselves. It taught me how much time and effort it takes just to end up with a finished product. At the end of the day, we went home realizing that we must never throw out and waste food which took hours just to produce.
